 "Very good first impressions" 2010-03-18
By Mr. W. Emmerson (UK)
This camera looks to be a winner so far. Excellent RAW picture quality. Good amount of settings (Although some may be tricky for first time users). A camera to experience rather than just point and click, would recommend sitting down with it regulary to get to grips with it. On the other hand, its the kind of camera that makes "most" photos look good anyway.

One negative would be that there was no memory card in a camera of this quality and price.

"My first venture into serious photography." 2010-02-20
By C. J. Fraser
This was my first 'serious' camera, after years of playing about with PnS and bridge cameras, I wanted something that would give me greater flexibility (lenses) and greater control over what I was going to photograph (settings).

I managed to bag a second hand 450D with IS kit lens for almost exactly 400 pounds. The screen on the 450D is lovely, half an inch bigger than the 1000D. The controls are nice to use, and I've had no real problems so far. The body is unfortunately made of plastic, whereas the 40D is magnesium alloy. But, at this price it's about right.

One major negative point I have noticed about the 450D is quick-AF is less than perfect, even just using the centre point. Firing the flash often helps to make it more accurate, but quite often it slightly back/front focusses, producing ever so slightly 'soft' shots. you can get around this by using contrast-detect AF in live view, which is very accurate, or simply manual focussing.

If you are looking for a first SLR consider this one. It's like the 1000D but offers slightly more advantages, including sensitivity in the centre AF point up to f/2.8, a bigger screen and faster shooting in RAW. The megapixel difference is negligible, and for a sensor this size you really don't want to go higher than 12 MP anyway.

"My First Proper Camera, and I am totally Loving the Experience!!!" 2010-02-20
By Happy Shopper!!! (Lagos, Nigeria)
I purchased and received my 450D + the Canon 70-300mm lens just before a trip to south of France in August 09, and i was bent on capturing all the moment on holiday with my wife. I got very lovely photos.

The Canon 450D is a beautiful camera, just a step above the entry level for Digital SLR's. Its quite easy to use and once you can learn to fiddle with it you will get the perfect setting that suit your personal moods.

This is my first proper camera, I had gone through 3 SONY's,1st was stolen, left the 2nd in taxi in Ghana, and the last one froze while on a tour at the Vatican, then bought an Olympus Stylus 770SW, which I have given to my 7 year old son.

I am extremely happy with my 450D, learning new things everyday. It's a very addictive habit, so far I have 3 lenses now, the 18-55mm, 70-300mm, both Canon and my favorite 18-270mm Tamron. External Flash Canon 430EXII, remote-control, tripods, Crumpler Jimmy bag.etc

My photography experience has been very worthwhile, friends and family love my photos, most come out better than even the "professional photographers" they call to evens as I seem to capture better moments than they do at functions.

Sometime in the nearest future I believe my Canon might go from a hobby to a part-time profession.

Top camera and very easy to use for a novice like me, however if you want to use the manual settings then you need to read the manual. The battery is also very good and lasts at least 300 photographs on one charge

"Still love it after one year" 2010-02-09
By Canon Eos User (London, UK)
Had the Canon Eos 450d for over a year now. Battery life is really good, the quality of the images it takes is fantastic and i am no professional. Shutter speed and the rate at which it can take photos is very good for general photos. Still got a lot to learn about all the functions but would highly recommend the camera to anyone looking for an entry level slr or something a bit more serious than a simple digital camera.

 "Great camera" 2010-03-25
By R. Mumford (London UK)
Let me start this review by saying that for the past 15 years or so I've been a Canon man but now I've seen the light. This is such a fun Camera to use and it feel a million miles away from my old EOS 450D in terms of ease of use and picture quality.

The camera is great for people at any level of photography as you can start out in 'green square' point and shoot mode and move on to explore the full range of features as your photography skills improve and you gain confience. Yes you might at first be bewildered by the range of buttons and dials on the camera but once you start using you'll find that these are much more convenient than the menu heavy system of a Canon 450 / 500 etc. The camera has some great features like white light and flash bracketing (you take muliple photos at different settings to get teh right result) and teh active D lighting system makes a big difference in pulling up shadow detail in pics.

The built in screen in clear and sharp and the menu system easy to use, it even has a help function if you get stuck. The kit lens is great giving sharp pics and covering a wide range so if you're starting out it should be just fine until you've built up your piggy bank enough to go shopping for more goodies. It also has 'VR' a vibration reduction system which helps avoid those out of focus 'wobble shots'.

The instruction manual is great and takes you through things step by step but if you want a bit more detail I'd also reccomend D90 for Dummies as a good overall course in how to use this camera.

Go on buy it today you won't be disapointed!

 "Superb piece of kit!!" 2010-02-28
By K. Richardson (Durham UK)
Having shared my daughter's D80 for a while, I decided to buy one for myself. Finding that the D80 was now out of production I looked at the D90. What a camera!! The D80 is excellent but the D90 takes that quality to a new level. Spend time going over the instructions and familiarise yourself with the controls and menus and you will find that it has been time well spent. The camera sits comfortably in the hand, (I tried a Canon of similar spec and found it a bit fiddly and small in the hand), with all controls within easy reach and sensibly laid out. Superb photographs in all lighting conditions. A joy to use. Worth the extra expense over lesser cameras. Buy one and enjoy!

 "Great camera but ..." 2010-02-28
By Sam's dad (Manchester, UK)
Lots has been written about this camera, so I'll simply add to what's been said.

The camera is great to handle, and the lens is easy and the focal length works really well, making this one lens you can carry around for plenty of different situations.

My one gripe is that connection between lens and camera. After about 4 months it started being temperamental. You can google it and you'll see that this is a problem. However, buried on one site I found a suggestion that the lens simply needs embedding, and that if you disconnect and reconnect it about a dozen times, that solves the problem. I've tried that, and so far it appears to be working.

Otherwise a rather expensive, but lovely piece of kit.

 "I love my camera" 2010-02-21

I recently bought a Nikon D90. Compared to my previous camera, this is a space ship.

I am surprised of the quality of pictures at night.

 "jb000" 2010-02-20
By Capt Stuart Baum
The image quality of this camera is astounding. Movie function is not a reason why i bought it, but it is a very good bonus feature anyway. If you are buying a camera purely for the image quality then this is the best value camera by far. It isnt a big jump from the D300 in image quality and features, but is a big jump in price. It also beats cameras like the cannon 500D in image quality aswell
