Let me start this review by saying that for the past 15 years or so I've been a Canon man but now I've seen the light. This is such a fun Camera to use and it feel a million miles away from my old EOS 450D in terms of ease of use and picture quality.
The camera is great for people at any level of photography as you can start out in 'green square' point and shoot mode and move on to explore the full range of features as your photography skills improve and you gain confience. Yes you might at first be bewildered by the range of buttons and dials on the camera but once you start using you'll find that these are much more convenient than the menu heavy system of a Canon 450 / 500 etc. The camera has some great features like white light and flash bracketing (you take muliple photos at different settings to get teh right result) and teh active D lighting system makes a big difference in pulling up shadow detail in pics.
The built in screen in clear and sharp and the menu system easy to use, it even has a help function if you get stuck. The kit lens is great giving sharp pics and covering a wide range so if you're starting out it should be just fine until you've built up your piggy bank enough to go shopping for more goodies. It also has 'VR' a vibration reduction system which helps avoid those out of focus 'wobble shots'.
The instruction manual is great and takes you through things step by step but if you want a bit more detail I'd also reccomend D90 for Dummies as a good overall course in how to use this camera.
Go on buy it today you won't be disapointed!

Having shared my daughter's D80 for a while, I decided to buy one for myself. Finding that the D80 was now out of production I looked at the D90. What a camera!! The D80 is excellent but the D90 takes that quality to a new level. Spend time going over the instructions and familiarise yourself with the controls and menus and you will find that it has been time well spent. The camera sits comfortably in the hand, (I tried a Canon of similar spec and found it a bit fiddly and small in the hand), with all controls within easy reach and sensibly laid out. Superb photographs in all lighting conditions. A joy to use. Worth the extra expense over lesser cameras. Buy one and enjoy!

Lots has been written about this camera, so I'll simply add to what's been said.
The camera is great to handle, and the lens is easy and the focal length works really well, making this one lens you can carry around for plenty of different situations.
My one gripe is that connection between lens and camera. After about 4 months it started being temperamental. You can google it and you'll see that this is a problem. However, buried on one site I found a suggestion that the lens simply needs embedding, and that if you disconnect and reconnect it about a dozen times, that solves the problem. I've tried that, and so far it appears to be working.
Otherwise a rather expensive, but lovely piece of kit.

I recently bought a Nikon D90. Compared to my previous camera, this is a space ship.
I am surprised of the quality of pictures at night.

The image quality of this camera is astounding. Movie function is not a reason why i bought it, but it is a very good bonus feature anyway. If you are buying a camera purely for the image quality then this is the best value camera by far. It isnt a big jump from the D300 in image quality and features, but is a big jump in price. It also beats cameras like the cannon 500D in image quality aswell
