 "Superb camera" 2009-08-10
By graham_525
This is the first DSLR I have bought and I have to say it has been worth every penny. The quality of the pictures I have taken with this camera have been consistently excellent. In fact well beyond my expectations. The colour and definition is quite stunning. The settings range from simple point and shoot through to complete manuel with various semi-automatic settings in between. This has made it easy for an amateur like myself to get started and progress as my knowledge and confidence has increased. I know a professional photographer whose camera cost significantly more and I have to say in all honesty I cannot see a difference in quality between the pictures taken with his camera and those taken with my 1000D. I highly recommend this camera for both amateurs and semi-professionals. It has been a joy to use.

 "Not a good experience." 2009-06-05

This is a great budget digital camera-when I eventually got it to work properly.

It twice needed to be sent back to the manufacturers well within the guarantee period.

However it has a fine spec and takes excellent pictures.

"Very satisfied with my first D-SLR" 2009-05-12
By KN (Lancs. UK)
As a compact-camera person I was a complete novice when it came to DSLR cameras. Recently I decided to upgrade as I was getting into shooting landscapes and so wanted to develop my photography skills.

It came to choosing between the Canon EOS1000D and the Nikon D60. I read reviews and went into some high street shops to get a feel of both and, after some thought, I went for the Canon. It just looked and felt better in my hands.

The verdict?

It is very easy to operate for basic shots, the battery life is really good (well over 500 shots on one charge) and the pictures are stunning. It is a genuine step-up from point and shoot. I've already had some 18in-by-12in posters made and am very happy with the results. The camera is instantly recognised by my PC through the USB connection and files transfer across no problem. The supplied Canon editing software is also very impressive. Some people (possibly more advanced users) think it has a cheap plastic feel to it but I am happy with it's lightweight nature and find the buttons and grips to be fine.

My only gripe is that some aspects on the camera menus aren't as easy to follow as others. The user manual doesn't really enable you to unlock the full potential of the camera. It looks like I will have to buy a 'DSLR book for dummies' and spend more time getting to know my camera.

In a nutshell, I am very satisfied with this camera. I am still learning but my pictures have gone from good to very good, so the camera is doing what I hoped it would.

 "A Perfect Camera" 2009-04-17
By Mr. Steven J. Corbett (Hastings, East Sussex, Eng)
My Canon Powershot dying a death I decided to move a step up and buy a Digital SLR camera.

I have to say that I having had the camera for 6 months now it has been a God send. Having weighed up the options of Sony, Nikon I decided to keep my allegiance to Canon and I am glad I did.

Price - I have been interested to note that the price as maintained at the same level since I bought it!

Functions - there are so many ways in being able to take a picture unless you are fully in the know you cannot hope to fully take on board all the guidance at once. (the accompanying booklet guide itself was all in English! - not just 10% which you get with some guides these days). However, after 6 months I feel that I am starting to understand and utilise the camera's complexities, but I am still learning, but enjoying the experience all along.

Pictures - As well as an excellent Auto function the camera allows you to take excellent panarama, sports and portrait pictures (auto ISO change) as well providing as an excellent opportunity to create your visual effects. The settings even allowed me to take a black and white photo.

Battery Life - What a bonus - I have taken at least 700 photos so far and the battery has yet to have a charge, still half full.

I have used and loved this camera with its Image stabalisation function, continuous shooting, cameral control/menu functions, it has a perfect balance when taking photos.

.... and it looks the biz.
