Socket and plug are good fit on a macbook pro, mid- late 2009.

I have some firewire 400 devices I want to use on an iMac which has only firewire 800. This adapter does the job perfectly and costs less than half the price of the converting cable I was offered at the Apple store.

This product is small and simple. It attaches to one end of an existing firewire 400 cable and the plugs into a firewire 800 slot on the newest iMacs. I have tested it with several external devices including hard disks and a Sony cam-corder with no problems. This May not be suitable for the new generation iBook or Macbook Pros because it will be easy to dislodge the connection if you rest the laptop on your lap rather then a desk. All in all it is inexpensive and works as well.

Excellent piece of kit this and essential if you have a Macbook/notebook with a Firewire 800 port.
Its small in size, so saves me needing carry around yet another bulky cable to connect my firewire 400 equipped devices.
